| Summer Conversations at Emmanuel |
| |
We hope you can join us for one or more of these summer
conversations. All are welcome.

| First Saturday Discussion Group |
| |
| This group meets on the first
Saturday of each month, from 9:00am to 12:00noon in the Emmanuel Room. The always lively discussions
have attracted a loyal following. Each month those present select the reading upon which the following
month’s discussion is based. The group is currently reading The Poet, the Warrior, the Prophet
by Rubem Alves.

Rilke’s A Book of Hours: Love Poems to God |
| |
| Come and listen to and reflect on these wonderful poems. They were written
in the early twentieth century by a young Rilke who deeply longed for an intimate relationship with the divine.
At least four meetings are planned, to be held on Sundays following our 10:00am service: July 31, August 7,
August 14, August 21, and possibly more.
We’ll be using the translation by Anita Barrows and Joanna Macy (Riverhead Books/Penguin, 1996).

| Book Discussion Series |
| |
| Ever wished you could talk about some of those great books that Emmanuel’s
ace reviewer, Carolyn Roosevelt, describes in our newsletter? The selection for our next meeting is
Patrick Henry’s The Ironic Christian’s Companion: Finding the Marks of God’s Grace
in the World. The meeting will be held following our 10:00am service on a yet to be determined Sunday.
Everyone is welcome — just show up!
