T

HE Society for Historically Informed Performance (SoHIP) celebrates their 21st season presenting outstanding early music groups from Boston and beyond. Music from the Renaissance through the 18th century sets the stage for some of New England’s finest young ensembles to showcase their talent and passion during six weeks of summer concerts in three locations:
  • Tuesdays, 8:00pm, St. Peter’s Church, 320 Boston Post Road, Weston.
  • Wednesdays, 8:00pm, The Chapel at West Parish, 129 Reservation Road, Andover.
  • Thursdays, 8:00pm, Lindsey Chapel, Emmanuel Church, 15 Newbury Street, Boston.
Each week’s set of concerts features a different ensemble:
  • Tues (June 19), Wed (June 20), Thurs (June 21): El Dorado Ensemble performs gems of the 17th century Italian repertoire.
  • Tues (June 26), Wed (June 27), Thurs (June 28): Heliotrope Consort presents a selection of vocal and instrumental chamber music from the beginning of 18th century France.
  • Tues (July 10), Wed (July 11), Thurs (July 12): Cut Circle juxtaposes the L’homme armé masses of two Renaissance masters: Josquin des Prez and his extraordinary contemporary Marbrianus de Orto.
  • Tues (July 17), Wed (July 18), Thurs (July 19): Boston’s exciting new vocal ensemble, Sprezzatura, breathes new life into the intricate madrigals of Claudio Monteverdi’s 4th and 5th books, published in the early years of the 17th century and representing the beginning of a transition from Renaissance to Baroque aesthetics.
  • Tues (July 24), Wed (July 25), Thurs (July 26): La Donna Musicale performs captivating and powerful songs, arias, and laments written by women composers in 17th and 18th century Venice.
  • Tues (July 31), Wed (August 1), Thurs (August 2): A London charcoal-seller’s astounding library of music includes many of the selections offered during his long-running concert series. Amphion’s Lyre presents music by Byrd, Purcell, Handel, and Rosenmueller found in Thomas Britton’s treasure trove.
